Multiple Selling Accounts

In April 2020, Amazon implemented a revised policy regarding the use of multiple accounts, now permitting sellers to open multiple accounts without requiring prior approval from Amazon.

Under this revised policy, obtaining explicit permission from Amazon is no longer necessary to open an additional Seller Central account, provided you have a legitimate business need.

What Amazon Says?

Each region in which you sell allows for only one Seller Central account to be maintained, unless there is a legitimate business needs to open a second account, and all existing accounts are in good standing.

If any of your accounts are found to be not in good standing, it is possible that we may deactivate all of your selling accounts until such time as all accounts are in good standing once again.

So, what qualifies as a “legitimate business need”?

Amazon lists the following as examples of legitimate business justifications:

  • You own multiple brands and maintain separate businesses for each
  • You manufacture products for two distinct and separate companies
  • You are recruited for an Amazon program that requires separate accounts

Amazon offers the option for sellers to create a secondary account, provided that the reason for doing so does not involve a suspension or potential suspension of their existing Amazon account. This allows sellers to have an additional account for various purposes.

Requirements

To open up a second Amazon account, following things are required:

  • Separate credit cards
  • Separate bank accounts
  • Separate email addresses
  • Separate phone number

Amazon do not requires a separate Business or personal entity

You should consider opening multiple seller accounts if

  • Different Brands under one company or
  • Different Brands under multiple companies

Benefits of Multiple Accounts

  • If sellers have separate selling accounts for each brand, they can effortlessly calculate the profit or loss associated with each brand.
  • Opening a second Amazon account can serve as another motive to obtain a fresh Inventory Placement Index (IPI) score
    • With separate accounts, each brand can have their own IPI scores
  • Selling a brand becomes challenging when multiple brands are associated with a single selling account.
  • You can have a related “Display Name” matching the type of products your brand offers

Things to Avoid

  • DO NOT sell the same products across multiple Amazon accounts, specifically at the same time.
  • DO NOT use the same email or bank information for multiple accounts.
  • DO NOT use your personal email, create new domain for each account
