Have you ever wondered how Amazon barcodes differ from a manufacturer’s barcode? In this article, we dive into the differences between the two, how they are used on the Amazon Seller Central platform and what kind of difference they make at Amazon’s warehouses.
Since the original article has been published, there have been several changes when it comes to labeling your FBA products.
Amazon Label Service Fee
One of the things that have changed is Amazon’s FBA Label Service Fee. If you decide to let Amazon label your products, it will now cost you a $0.55 fee per item, vs $0.30 from 2020. Not surprising though, given how FBA fees have increased as well during this period. It’s recommended that you always visit Amazon’s FBA Label Service page for the most accurate information.
Products That Require Amazon BarcodeS
The list of products that now require Amazon barcodes has expanded slightly. In addition to products that are not tracked using the manufacturer barcode, the following products require Amazon barcodes:
- Products that are not in new condition
- Products that don’t have a scannable UPC, EAN, JAN, or ISBN barcode
- Restricted products and dangerous goods
- Products with an expiration date
- Consumable or topical products
- Media products
- Products for children or infants
Manufacturer’s Barcode Virtual Tracking
Virtual Tracking is not that different from co-mingled inventory. With co-mingled inventory, products that share the same UPC and are in the same warehouse are stored together. Virtual tracking allows Amazon to fulfill orders using identical products from different suppliers to provide expedited delivery from the fulfillment center that is closest to the buyer.
In the image below, we visually presented the major differences between Amazon’s and Manufacturer’s Barcodes, but check out this article for more details and information.
