Guide to Amazon Ships in Product Packaging (SIPP)

The Ships in Product Packaging (SIPP) program, previously known as Ships in Own Container (SIOC), allows Amazon sellers to send products to buyers in the brand’s custom packaging.

What Is the Amazon Ships in Product Packaging Program?

Ships in Product Packaging (SIPP) is a fulfillment technique through which products are delivered to buyers in their original packaging instead of an Amazon-labeled box or poly bag. When the SIPP program ships a product, the shipping label is attached to the external box, which is used as the shipping box instead of Amazon-labeled packaging.

Amazon launched this FBA shipping initiative to achieve its sustainability objectives. It aims to reduce packaging waste and streamline logistics. Additionally, this program allows sellers to lower their fulfillment expenses.

How Amazon SIPP Works?

When a product is ordered, it is retrieved from the Amazon warehouse, where it is stored in its original packaging. Instead of placing this box inside another box, Amazon attaches a shipping label directly to it.

This method is prevalent for items in sturdy, retail-ready packaging that can withstand the rigors of shipping without additional protection.

Benefits of SIPP

  • Lower Fulfillment Fees:  Certified SIPP products will receive reduced FBA fulfillment fees on each certified unit shipped.
  • More Sustainable: SIPP benefits the environment by reducing the need for extra shipping boxes, reducing cardboard use, and minimizing consumer packaging waste.
  • Cost Efficiency: SIPP helps reduce costs associated with extra packaging and the labor involved in packing products.
  • Improved Customer Experience:  SIPP simplifies unpacking by reducing excess packaging, which customers especially appreciate during high-volume times like the holidays. This makes disposal easier.
  • Increase Brand Awareness: This is an excellent opportunity for Amazon sellers to customize their branding and product packaging. Make your brand and packaging recognizable.

How to Enrol in SIPP

The first step is to ensure that your product packaging meets Amazon’s Ships in Product Packaging Certification guidelines.

Test and Evaluate Your Products

All products must pass a physical performance test through a self-drop test or International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) 6 lab test.

  • Self-Test: This method is suitable if the product is sturdy, devoid of liquids or sharp components, and not composed of granules smaller than one inch in diameter. Learn more for detailed self-testing instructions.
  • ISTA 6 Lab Test: Conducting a self-test is not permissible if your product is delicate or includes pointed objects or liquids. To achieve certification, you must provide an ISTA-6A laboratory report from Amazon’s APASS network facility.
