How to List Products on Amazon That Get Indexed by Search
Amazon marketplace is a convenient platform for consumers around the world to satisfy their short, as well as their long-term needs, across multiple product categories ranging from day-to-day household products to consumer durables such as electronics, furniture, etc.
However, along with satisfying the demands of the consumer segment, the marketplace also serves as the desired destination for the seller segment to make their products available on Amazon’s website/ application and henceforth take part in a two-way transaction with consumers. This proves not only to be a profitable way of doing business for the selling enterprises but also assists in their long-term growth and viability.
A very important part of the selling process on Amazon is creating and updating (on a regular basis) the product listings that the respective sellers offer when selling on Amazon. The product listing includes various information about the products that sellers can see via Amazon.
In general, Amazon provides two different listing methods for its sellers to choose from. They are:
1. Add a Product method: To incorporate this listing tool, sellers have to click Add a Product option under the Inventory drop-down menu visible in the Seller Account section. Through this option, sellers can create a new listing by matching it to an existing product detail page in the Amazon Catalog. For a product with respect to a catalog that does not exist in Amazon, sellers have to first create a detail page for the product and then, create the listing. This is a very easy way to add a few listings or product pages, however, it cannot be used to create multiple listings at the same time.
2.Inventory File Templates: This tool will help the user to create the product listings in bulk. These templates are text files (.txt) that include all the information to help sellers create and maintain the product listings. This feature is available only to sellers with professional selling plans. A more detailed comparison between the two tools is provided below:
Once the listings are created, sellers can use the option Manage Inventory, to make changes to the listing or the product information provided.
With the help of the two listing methods, sellers can create their product listings. The Amazon interface provides sellers with the following four listing types:
Individual Listing: This is the most common type of listing products on Amazon which can be used only through the Add a Product feature. Sellers can create separate listings for their products every time they add a new product to the product catalogs available on the marketplace.
Parent-Child listing: A parent-child listing is a sub-category of product listing in Amazon which can be created by using both Add a Product or Inventory files tool. This type of listing will help customers view different versions (child) of the same product (parent) they are viewing.
While creating a parent-child listing, sellers have to make sure that all the child products are described completely along with their variation attributes. The price and quantity of the parent products should not be included as this may result in the disappearance of the products from the catalog. Given below is an example of a parent-child listing for your better understanding.
Accessories: These products can be bought together with the main product that consumers are willing to purchase on Amazon. The price of accessories is quite low compared to the main product and can be used only together with the main product. Accessories are available across multiple categories such as electronics (mobile phones with charger or tempered glass), furniture (along with a decorative piece of cover), instruments (such as guitar along with strings or straps), etc.
Add-ons: The add-ons are nothing but complementary products which can be bought together as a bundle to make the sale economically viable for Amazon. They are too small and cheap and hence do not make economic sense for Amazon to ship these products individually.
Such products can only be purchased as part of orders above $25 shipped by Amazon to the same address. Such products are often denoted by a blue stamp on the product page. The algorithm used by Amazon to determine add-on items is not known. Most are of the opinion that it has to do with the price and weight of different products but this seems to not be applicable in all cases. Even if two products have the same specifications- one may be an add-on, while the other may not.
Sellers are now using all the tools they have at their disposal to implement different strategies which can make their Amazon product listings rank higher and perform better in the marketplace. They regularly modify their prices, undertake regular research to enhance their marketing tactics to increase their visibility on the marketplace which will result in higher sales and better profitability.
