The e-commerce Industry Braces for Impact After Silicon Valley Bank’s Demise
- Any seller who has $250K or less in Silicon Valley Bank will be reimbursed by the FDIC starting on Monday, March 13th. On Wednesday, Silicon Valley Bank disclosed it had taken a $1.8 billion after-tax loss, after selling off $21 billion in available-for-sale securities. Silicon Valley Bank CEO Greg Becker also said the institution was looking to raise $2.5 billion to shore up its balance sheet. The crash has left many eCommerce companies scrambling to find new banking partners, with some fearing they may be forced out of business and unable to make payroll. The loss of Silicon Valley Bank’s support could lead to a slowdown in growth for some eCmmerce companies and may result in consolidation within the industry. Cash is still king.
