Three new product listing attributes required in June

  • Starting June 6, 2023, new product listings for certain product types must include color name, size name, or product description attributes. This won’t be required for active listings. The required attributes and the product types that will require them are as follows : Color name: backpack, underpants, bra, apron, keychain, costume outfit. Size name: leotard, scarf, sunglasses. Product description: light fixture, art supplies, hardware handle, kitchen, artificial plant, wireless accessory, home furniture and decor, office products.

  • Amazon has updated its Search Query Details dashboard, you can now view the performance of the top 10 ASINs and compare them to your selected ASIN directly from the Search Query Details dashboard. The top performing ASINs are selected based on the Query ASIN score, which is calculated using a combination of search funnel impressions, clicks, cart adds, and purchases.

Amazon Turns to AI To drive Advertising Revenue Leveraging Photo & Video Content Creation

  • Amazon is creating a new team to develop AI tools that generate photos and videos for merchants to use on their platform, aiming to expand their advertising business. CEO Andy Jassy hopes to find new ways to place ads across Amazon’s businesses, including on their free video streaming service, during Thursday Night Football broadcasts on Prime video, Amazon Music, and digital screens inside Amazon Fresh stores. The urgency for this new team is driven by the competition from Meta and Google, who are also working on similar AI projects. E-commerce businesses like Scale AI and Shopify are already promoting generative AI products to online merchants. While Jassy has cut jobs, he wants to strengthen Amazon’s existing businesses with more powerful selling tools. Advertising brought in $38 billion in revenue last year and is expected to raise revenues substantially this year.

  Amazon quietly acquired audio content discovery engine Snackable AI to boost its podcast projects

  • Amazon has acquired Snackable AI, an Estonian audio content discovery engine, to enhance its podcast features. Amazon added podcasts to its Music platform in 2020 and has since expanded its offering by adding synched transcripts and a “Podcast Previews” feature to help customers find new podcasts. Snackable AI specialized in using AI to add metadata to video and audio easily, making content consumption quick and efficient. Snackable AI founder and CEO Mari Joller now leads an AI and machine learning team at Amazon Music Podcasts, working on existing podcast projects. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. This comes on the heels of Amazon NewFronts where Amazon advertising is touting its reach to customers across all phases of the shopping journey and entertainment.

  Amazon’s TikTok-like Inspire shopping feed is now available to all customers in the US

  • Amazon has launched its in-app shopping feed, Inspire, to all customers in the US. The feature, which offers short-form videos and photos featuring products, was tested with select US customers in December 2020. Customers can personalize their Inspire feed by selecting from over 20 interests and scrolling through content, liking or purchasing products as they go. Creators enrolled in Amazon’s Influencer Program can post content to Inspire, earning commission when customers shop from their content. Brands can also post to the feed. While Amazon has a history of incorporating popular social media formats into its platform, it is unclear whether it can create a format that is both entertaining and worthwhile for shopping.
