If content is the king, video is his favorite jester. In recent years, Amazon and its advertising services have experienced an incredible rise. The buyer’s funnel is no longer linear. It is more of an organized mess of different ad types, content that follows, and ad placements where it shows—crossing over each other at all times, always, simultaneously.
To be sure we have sufficient options for showing our products, Amazon unboxed us Prime Video ads! In late 2023, an ad-free streaming service was announced to be ad-busy, and in 2024, brands got this unique opportunity to tell their story alongside premium TV content. One video to rule them all, right?
Video advertising is a highly efficient and engaging way for sellers to tell their brand story, showcase their product’s unique selling points, and increase their revenue, which we discussed more in this article.
At the time of the launch, it was estimated that Prime ads would reach 115 million viewers in the U.S. Prime Video households spend 20% more monthly on Amazon than non-Prime Video households. Also, Prime Video Households are 25% more likely to have an annual household income of $150k+.
These numbers tell us how beneficial it would be to run video advertisements on exclusive Prime Video, between its content, while watchers enjoy their leisure time and your brand has to offer them something of great value!
The swift switch from linear television to Streaming TV brought us many opportunities, and small brands that would never dream of running expensive TV advertisements have gotten the opportunity in recent years to showcase their brands in unique and premium ways.
Streaming TV, Sponsored TV, and Prime Video Ads at Last
Amazon started offering Streaming TV ads accessible through their Demand-side platform, or DSP, if you prefer, alongside the additional offer to create videos for brands using their in-house production and editing services. Now comes Prime Video, an extended hand of Streaming TV and channels like Fire TV, Freevee, Twitch, Live Sports, and premium third-party publishers.
Before launching the Prime Video ads inventory, Amazon also introduced Sponsored TV, which is accessible through your good, old ads console. You still get access to Amazon streaming inventory like Freevee, Twitch, Bloomberg, and Crackle from Amazon Partner Network, but without the need for an exclusive DSP spot. Imagine that big opening for brands to streaming services! You select the video and target type of content you want, and voila—you get your attention in leisure time, too! Amazon also offers a $500 ad credit to start.
But to circle back to Prime, you will need a DSP spot if your brand still wants this premium access. You can access Prime Video Ads through Amazon DSP, a demand-side platform where you can buy exclusive ad placements across Amazon and their Partner Network website for display, video, and audio ads through self-service or managed service.
If you, as a brand, don’t have a self-service DSP spot, BellaVix, as an Amazon Partner, has its own ‘seat,’ and we can help you set up those ads with our expertise. Reach out to us on the Contact Us page or contact us directly at [email protected]
New Ad Formats Coming to Prime Video
Prime Video ads are not going anywhere! Amazon also introduced three new ad types to roll out in its streaming platform: carousel ads, pause ads, and trivia ads. They are going beyond video!
The carousel ads format will feature several products in a slide lineup. This commercial break will automatically pause content while the potential customer interacts with it and unpause it when the interaction ends.
Pause ads will appear when the show or video is paused. They will have a link to the products or Brand Store and an additional option to Add to the Cart.
Last, trivia ads will tell facts about a product and give potential customers the chance to earn rewards by completing certain tasks, such as buying the advertised item.
